When someone dies, it is necessary to value all of the decedent’s assets, including real property such as real estate. A date of death valuation determines the Fair Market Value of real estate as of the date that the owner died.

Retrospective

Retrospective appraisals (Historical Appraisals) are performed when a situation requires an appraisal of property to determine Fair Market Value where the effective date of the appraisal is a date in the past.

Divorce

When you divorce, an appraisal of the property held by one or both partners is usually necessary to determine the value of the real estate that will be divided as part of your divorce property settlement. This type of appraisal is commonly called a divorce appraisal.
